Introduction

King Edward VI Grammar School is a mixed selective academy in Louth Lincolnshire. King Edward VI Grammar School traces its history all the way back to 1551, and attributes its survival to its ability to adapt to changing times, and listen to everyone in its community. The three core values at the heart of King Edward VI Grammar School are; the Holistic, the Academic, and a commitment to a broad education. The most recent Ofsted report stated that the school is outstanding and that it is a very effective school, however this was in 2011 and so you should be cautious taking this to heart. The headteacher’s beliefs are that “Children, especially able children, should develop a passion for something other than school”. 

 

In 2019 King Edward VI Grammar School performed well academically, with 85% of its students achieving a 5+ in Maths and English at GCSE. King Edward VI Grammar School scored an Attainment 8 score 18 points above the national and local average. They achieved a Progress 8 score of 0.12 which is an average score. These scores have remained relatively consistent from 2017 to 2019. 2020 and 2021 are not used due to Covid 19 cancelling exams.

King Edward VI Grammar School selects students using both the GL 11 Plus test common and compulsory to most Grammar schools in the Lincolnshire Consortium of Grammar Schools. There is no catchment area for King Edward VI Grammar School, instead the mark achieved in the exam dictates whether a place will be awarded.

The King Edward VI Grammar School Entry Exam: Overview

The entry exam consists of two papers made by GL. The first paper is on Verbal Reasoning, the second paper is on Non-Verbal Reasoning. Entry Exam: Pass Criteria

The pass mark for entry to King Edward VI Grammar School is a standardised score of 220. This is common to all schools in the Lincolnshire Consortium of Grammar Schools. The standardised score is derived by taking the total score from both tests and adjusting it for factors such as age difference. After applicants with additional eligibility have been placed, the remaining places are awarded based on rank of mark achieved in the entry exam.
