Introduction

Calday Grange Grammar School is a selective school for boys in Birkenhead, Wirral, that dates back to 1636. According to the headteacher Mr Stephen Gray; tradition and history underpin everything at Calday but they aim to give a modern education, not just that but ‘more than an education’. Mutual respect is built into everything at Calday. In 2019 Ofstead reported that students feel safe, have good behaviour, are motivated, are respectful, and can work without distraction. While there was little reported bullying, students lack faith in the staff to soundly resolve cases of bullying. The teaching is good, with students being appropriately challenged, and the information being taught is revisited so as to make sure that pupils remember the important details.

Calday Grange Grammar School scored an above average score in the Progress 8 with a score of 0.24 in 2019. 91% of students at Calday Grange Grammar School achieved a 5+ in English and Maths at GCSE. The Attainment 8 score achieved by Calday Grange Grammar School was 19 points above the national average and 21 points above the local average.
