Introduction
Wilson’s School is a selective academy for boys, situated just outside of London, in Surrey. It offers a broad curriculum to incoming students and prides itself on being a successful, state-funded academic institution under the local authority.
As previously stated, Wilson’s School performance consistently highly in terms of academic results. The 2022 GCSE examinations saw 95.4% of grades across all subjects at grades 9-7 (A*-A under the previous GCSE marking criteria). The pupils in this cohort also achieved a 100% pass rate in both English and Maths. This impressive set of results led to 100% of all students in this year group staying in full-time education. Many of the students chose to stay on at Wilson’s School Sixth Form. An equally successful place of further education, achieving a similarly impressive set of results each year. Wilson’s School Sixth Form offers a breadth of subjects and sees many of it’s alumni head to prestigious universities to study a range of degrees.
Wilson’s School, along with the other grammar schools under Sutton council, are competitive for entry. Wilson’s School, in conjunction with all 6 grammar schools in the Sutton borough, use an initial selective test, known as the Selective Eligibility Test (SET), to narrow prospective students at the school. Next, Wilson’s, along with Sutton Grammar School and Wallington County School, use a common second test to further narrow prospective students for entry. Wallington County Grammar School Entrance Test Format
Wallington County Grammar School, with all 3 boys’ grammar schools under Sutton borough council, test students for admission using both a First Stage and a Second Stage. First, all students sit the Selective Eligibility Test (SET), common to all 6 grammar schools under Sutton Borough Council. If a student is successful, they’re invited to take part in ‘Stage Two’ of testing. The boys schools all use a common exam to test their candidates. Both the SET and the Stage Two test are daunting for prospective students, especially considering the intensity of taking two selective tests. The Selective Eligibility Test (SET)
The SET, common to all 6 grammar schools in Sutton, is made up of two papers; a multiple choice Maths paper and a multiple choice English paper. Candidates record their answers on a separate answer sheet by filling in a lozenge-shape for answer A, B, C, D or E or a combination of answers. If candidates change their mind about the answer, they need to rub out as fully as possible the wrong answer and replace it with the new answer. The exam papers take between 40 and 50 minutes each and there is a rest and toilet break between the two.

After the SET test in September, results are received approximately a week after sitting the test. It is not possible to predict a ‘pass mark’, as these are subject to change every year. Each individual school may determine its own pass mark, usually by comparing against all the candidates aggregate scores. It is predicted that 25-30% of candidates will pass the test. Following this ‘Stage One’ of testing, successful candidates will be invited to ‘Stage Two’ of testing.

Catchment Area
Wallington County Grammar School does not operate on a catchment area to prioritise students for admission. However, as contained in the oversubscription criteria, detailed below, 15 places are reserved for students who reside in ‘Sutton postcodes’.
Additional Eligibility
Where the number of boys meeting the School’s Admission Standard exceed the number of places available, the criteria below is used to make offers to candidates, in descending order of priority, until all 150 places are filled:
- Looked After or Previously Looked After Children;
- Children of Permanent Staff;
- Rank order of children in the SET and the Second Stage test
- The number of places given under the criteria above will not exceed 110;
- Children attracting the pupil premium;
- Up to 25 places offered to children under this category. Where all 25 are not filled, the rest will go to the children next ranked under crtiteron 3.
- Sutton postcodes
- Up to 15 places are reserved to children residing in the postcodes: SM1, SM2, SM3, SM4, SM5, SM6, SM7, KT4 8**, CR0 4** & CR4 4**
