Introduction

The Latymer School is a mixed selective academy in Edmonton, London. The Latymer School has been providing an education for aspiring children for nearly 400 years. The Latymer School’s mission is to inspire young minds to reach their full potential so that they may go into the world with relevant knowledge for whatever they aspire to achieve. The Latymer School does not measure its success purely in academical ability, but also emotional and social growth. The main values that The Latymer School tries to instil in its students are: Confidence, Consideration, and Inclusion, it is very important at The Latymer School that all students are treated as equals and that everyone is valued and appreciated. There was an Ofsted inspection of The Latymer School in 2022, that reported the school as being “Good”, achieving a “Good” status in every key aspect except for Personal Development and Sixth-form provision where they achieved “Outstanding”. 

 

In 2019 The Latymer School achieved a Progress 8 score of 0.68, which is classified as “Well above average”. Of the students attending The Latymer School 93% took the EBacc, and the average EBacc points score was 7.88, much higher than the local average of 4.23. Of the students taking GCSEs in 2019 98% score a 5+ in English and Maths. The Latymer School Exam Format

The 11 Plus entry exam for The Latymer School is comprised of Maths and Verbal Reasoning tests made and marked by GL Assessment, and of an English paper written and marked by The Latymer School.

The The Latymer School Entry Exam: Overview

The entry exam is made up of questions on Maths, English and Verbal Reasoning. The Verbal Reasoning and Maths questions are set and marked by GL Assessment, they are multiple choice questions, and will take a total of one hour. The English paper is written and marked by the school.

Pass Mark

The top 650 ranked applicants in the Maths and Verbal Reasoning paper will have their English paper marked. Applicants who do not score in the top 650 will not be offered a place. The test scores from both papers will then be added together and adjusted for age difference. Applicants will then be ranked in order of marks achieved and the highest ranked will be given greater priority for places.

  • “Education, Health and Care Plan” – Applicants who are eligible and rank in the top 650 in the Maths and Verbal Reasoning test will be admitted. 
  • “Looked After Children” – Applicants who are eligible and rank in the top 900 in Maths and Verbal Reasoning test will be admitted. 
  • “Pupil Premium” – 20 applicants who are eligible and are ranking in the top 900 in the Maths and Verbal Reasoning test will be admitted. 
  • Exceptional Music Talent – 20 applicants may be offered a place, usually those who have achieved a Grade 5 Distinction will be accepted but this is variable depending on the instrument and other factors.
