Introduction

Queen Mary’s High School is a free, selective academy predominantly for girls, but allows a few boys, between the ages of 11 and 18. The school is located in Walsall, and has been running for nearly 130 years. Queen Mary’s High School has a high oversubscription rate for year 7 applications, with over 5 applicants per place available. Queen Mary’s values community spirit and student support, the students routinely undertake charitable for the betterment of their community and those in need. Upon arrival students are placed into one of 4 houses, each celebrating a successful female author, and given a book by that author so as to inspire them. Houses are used to encourage more diverse friend groups and facilitate positive interactions between year groups. They also have competitions within the school, and so encourage the students to be creative and athletic. 

 

As of 2021, 99% of GCSE students achieve 5+ in Maths and English, with 84% of all GCSE grades being a 7+. In 2021 65% of their A level students achieved between A* and B in all subjects.
