Invicta Grammar has a Progress 8 score of 0.83 placing it in the highest possible category ‘Well above average’ and amongst the highest in the country. Invicta Grammar School Exam Format

Invicta Grammar School selects Girls for entry to year 7 using the GL 11 Plus exam board provided Kent Test, sometimes referred to as the KENT PESE (Procedure for Entry to Secondary Education). This test is common to all schools under Kent County Council and passing the Kent Test will permit entry to any other Kentish Grammar School. As the test is the same for these schools and in order to provide a consistency of information and support 11 Plus Hero has created a centralised article delving into the details of the Kent Test and how best to prepare here – ‘Selective Tests in Kent – The Kent Test’. An overview of the core structure is provided below.

The GL 11 Plus Kent Test: Overview

There are five parts to the Kent Test split into two papers and a writing exercise. Paper one will assess your daughters progress towards KS2 targets and Paper two assesses your daughter’s logical reasoning.

Paper One

A multiple choice English and Maths paper written by GL 11 Plus and lasting 1 hour

Paper Two

A multiple choice Verbal Reasoning and Non-verbal reasoning paper written by GL 11 Plus and lasting 1 hour

Additional

A creative writing exercise written by the school and lasting 40 minutes

Pass Mark

The GL 11 Plus Kent Test: Pass Criteria

Scores from Papers one and two will be compared to other children taking the Kent Test, standardised and aggregated into a single score. This aggregate must reach above a threshold without any one paper score dropping below a certain level. The threshold mark changes every year as it depends on how well all students have performed and so how the marks have been standardised. It is estimated that the top 25% of students nationally will score above the threshold and be granted admission to a Grammar School. For further details and example thresholds please see our centralised article ‘Selective Tests in Kent – The Kent Test’.

Catchment Area

Invicta Grammar School does not operate a standard catchment area as defined by either nearby postcodes or parishes, but accepts students from over 50 nearby primary schools. Girls who have passed the Kent Test will be admitted to Invicta Grammar School based on the proximity of their permanent residence and a fixed point at the school in a straight line, as defined by the National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG) address point data. As such the catchment area may be small one year if many students in close proximity achieve passing grades, but may grow larger the following year.

Additional Eligibility

Certain students with extenuating circumstances may be eligible for admissions places with priority, but this is still dependent on them passing the Kent Test.

  • Girls who are in the care of the local authority or have previously been in the care of the local authority
  • Girls who have a sibling already in attendance, either a sister is mian school or brother in the sixth form
  • Girls with a medical, health or special access requirement that would be met by Invicta Grammar School specifically. This must be evidenced by recommendation from a medically qualified or otherwise professionally accredited health practitioner.
  • Girls who are in receipt of Pupil Premium. Eligibility is determined if the girl in question has been in receipt of free school meals at any time in the last 6 years. Please see the Application Documents section for the Invicta Grammar School Supplementary Form for Pupil Premium Information for Entry 2023/ 2024.
  • Girls who have a parent who works full time at the school as a member of staff, and has done for a minimum of 2 years or else has recently been hired in a position where there was a school shortage of expertise.
  • Should these criteria fail to distinguish between two equally eligible girls, a decision will be made at random.
