Introduction

Chatham Grammar is a selective school for girls in Chatham, Kent, and is sponsored by the University of Kent. Chatham Grammar states that their high quality teaching will instil high quality learning with their pupils, that this encourages confidence and interest in learning, and will lead to a more successful life. 

In 2019 Ofsted inspected Chatham Grammar and found that the school was “Good”. This “Good” standard was given to every key aspect except the Sixth Form program which was stated as “Requires Improvement”. In 2019 Ofsted noted that Chatham Grammar was improving, with students behaviour being good, however they noted that teaching is not equally good amongst all students.

Chatham Grammar Exam Format

Applicants applying to Chatham Grammar can choose to either take the Medway Test or the Kent Test, or both. Taking both tests gives your multiple chances at being deemed acceptable for a place. The Medway Test is common to all of the grammar schools in Medway, Kent. The Kent test is common to all of the grammar schools in Kent.

The Chatham Grammar Entry Exam: Overview

The Medway Test is made up of three papers, one of each Extended Writing, Maths, and Verbal Reasoning. Marks awarded in the Extended Writing and Maths papers are worth double, making them have greater weighting than the marks achieved in the Verbal Reasoning paper. GL Assessment provides the Maths and Verbal Reasoning papers.

Pass Mark

The Kent Test: Pass Criteria

The pass mark for the Kent Test is not a set mark but instead is changed to accommodate the top 25% of students in the country. Applicants must achieve the pass mark in either the Kent Test or the Medway Test in order to be able to be offered a place.

 

The Medway Test: Pass Criteria

The pass mark for the Medway Test changes from year to year to award the top 23% of applicants. For 2023 admissions the pass mark was 488. Applicants must achieve the pass mark in either the Kent Test or the Medway Test in order to be able to be offered a place.
