Introduction

Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School (LGSS) is a selective state school with academy status and a Sixth Form. LGSS has a strong academic reputation, ranked 39th – and the only Lancashire school in the top 50 – by the Sunday Times Parent Power table 2021 for the most successful state schools across the country. Students have the opportunity to study three Modern Foreign Languages in Year 7 and GCSEs are typically composed of popular practical and creative subject choices. LGSS encourages students to be inclusive and resilient with a strong family ethos and house system supported by promotion of emotional and physical well-being.

The school is very popular and often oversubscribed, consistently celebrating strong exam results; in 2022, over three-quarters of students achieved grades 7 to 9 and over half scored grade 8 and 9. In A-Levels, the Science students performed exceptionally well, and in total 80.5% of grades were at A*-B.
