Introduction

Clitheroe Royal Grammar is a selective, co-educational 11-18 grammar school with academy status. Founded in 1554, the school is proud of its long-standing history in the area and celebrates Commemoration Day annually. The school’s motto, “In Saxo Condita”, meaning Founded on Rock, is supported by a system built on valuing relationships and respect. Clitheroe Royal Grammar encourages students to be creative and independent in a safe, nurturing environment full of experiences and opportunities.

School performance and attendance is above average, and as a selective mixed grammar school with a Sixth Form, competition for entry is strong, with around 5 applicants for every place. In 2020, approximately 50% of all GCSEs were at grade 9-8 with nearly 100% of students achieving 9-4 across 5 or more subjects including Additional Maths. These grades have remained consistent over the last two years, with over 67% of results at grades 7-9 in 2022.

Additional Eligibility

A place will be offered to candidates who achieve the required standard and name Clitheroe Royal Grammar School on a current Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

  1.  First priority is given to candidates who are currently, or were previously, looked after by the local authority.
  2. Candidates with current and valid Pupil Premium whose permanent residence is within the catchment area.
  3. Candidates whose permanent residence is within the catchment area.
  4.  Candidates who qualify for Pupil Premium and live outside the catchment area.
  5. Candidates living outside of the catchment area.
