Pass Mark
The pass mark for admission to Poole Grammar School is subject to change every year. According to the school’s 2023 admissions policy, the pass mark will be issued to parents, along with their child’s actual mark on results day in October of the preceding year of entry. For entry in 2023, test scores will be received by mid-October 2022. It is notable that the Bournemouth consortium uses a method of standardised marking, meaning that younger children are not penalised for their age, the results are statistically standardised to compare any child’s score average to the average score of their school year. Girls’ scores will be assessed as to whether they meet the ‘required standard’ and are therefore eligible for admission to the Bournemouth grammar schools. What the required standard is cannot be predicted and is subject to change each year. But, it is estimated that the top 25% of students will meet this and it is likely there will be more eligible students than places. Catchment Area
As aforementioned, to be considered for admission to Bournemouth School For Girls, candidates must be ‘eligible’ for admission, meaning they have to ‘pass’ the test. The pass mark is not common and is subject to change every year. Notably, just because a child is considered eligible for admission does not mean they will be granted entry. Grammar schools in Bournemouth, including Bournemouth School For Girls are heavily oversubscribed. For this reason, the school uses a ‘Catchment area’ in its oversubscription criteria, to prioritise which girls should be given offers to the school.
The school’s catchment area is defined as pupils living in postcodes BH1 to BH 11, in addition to pupils living in the postcodes BH12 5, BH23 1, BH23 2 and BH23 3.
Additional Eligibility
Girls with an EHCP issued by a local authority, naming Poole Grammar School, will be admitted to the school with priority, before the above oversubscription criteria is applied. As a result, the PAN number of students to be admitted using the oversubscription criteria will reduce accordingly.
For a full and detailed breakdown of the admissions process and eligibility criteria, please visit Bournemouth School For Girls’ 2023 Admissions Policy
For admission to Bournemouth School For Girls, where the number of eligible pupils exceeds the number of places available, the school uses the following set of oversubscription criteria to make offers, prioritised in the order listed:

- 130 places are assigned to girls who scored the most highly in the tests, in rank order of the total of their entrance test scores, with those girls obtaining the highest scores given highest priority;
- Of the remaining eligible girls, those who live within the school’s catchment area and are ineligible for the Pupil Premium grant will be given offers next, in order of their entrance test scores, with the highest being given priority;
- The remaining eligible girls will be ranked in order of the total of their entrance test scores, with the girls obtaining the highest scores being given highest priority.
