Entry Exam: Pass Criteria

The pass criteria is a standardised score of 220. This has been selected so as to filter out the top 25% of students in the local area. All applicants must achieve the pass mark in order to be accepted.

Catchment area

Bourne Grammar School does not use catchment areas, instead places will be given to the applicants that live closest to the school. There is a map on the Lincolnshire Consortium of Grammar Schools website that shows the usual area where students are accepted from.

Additional eligibilities

Applicants who have achieved the pass mark and are eligible for any of the below will be given priority in receiving places at Bourne Grammar School.

  • “Education, Health and Care Plan”
  • “Looked After Children”
  • Siblings of current students
  • Children of members of staff

Bourne Grammar School FAQs

The pass mark of a standardised score of 220 is used by nearly all of the schools in the Lincolnshire Consortium of Grammar Schools. It is designed to select the top 25% of students. The standardisation is done by taking the total scores from the two papers and adjusting them for factors such as age so that they are more fair. A higher mark in the entry exam does not guarantee a place if they are oversubscribed.

Bourne Grammar School’s exam uses the GL 11 Plus exams. In particular they use the multiple choice versions of the Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning papers.

You can get practice papers on the Bourne Grammar School website
