Introduction

Carre’s Grammar School is a selective academy for boys with a mixed sixth-form. Carre’s main objective is to nurture their pupils’ enthusiasm for learning so that it will stay with them long after they leave. The 2017 Ofsted inspection confirmed that the students have this enthusiasm, with the pupils having a strong desire to be on time and part of every lesson.

 

Carre’s Grammar School academically scores well compared to the national average but relatively poor compared to some other grammar schools in Lincolnshire. They scored -0.19 in their Progress 8 in 2019, this is an average score. 63% of students achieved 5+ in Maths and English in their GCSEs. They scored 12 points above the national average in attainment 8.

Carre’s Grammar Exam Format

The tests used for the entry exam for Carre’s Grammar School are standard GL assessments. The testing  will start promptly at 9am so applicants should be there for 8:30 at the latest. These entry exams are common to all schools in the Lincolnshire Consortium of Grammar Schools.

The Carre’s Grammar School Entry Exam: Overview

The entry test for Carre’s Grammar School consists of two GL tests taken on different days, the first test will be on Verbal Reasoning, the second will be on Non-Verbal Reasoning. Each test will take 1 hour with 15 minutes being allowed for practice questions.

Carre’s Grammar School uses a pass mark of a standardised score of 220, this is common to most of the schools in the Lincolnshire Consortium of Grammar Schools. The standardised score is found by taking the raw score of both tests and adjusting for factors such as age difference.

Applicants must achieve the pass mark in order to be accepted to Carre’s Grammar School.

Carre’s Grammar School does not use a set catchment area, instead priority is given to the applicants who live closest (by straight line) to the school.
