Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School Horncastle is a mixed, selective grammar school in Horncastle, Lincolnshire. At Queen Elizabeth’s they believe that the hallmarks of a good school are its students’ happiness, safety, and ability to flourish. Queen Elizabeth’s is regarded as a science college with strong science, maths, and IT departments. It does, however, still offer a wide variety of subjects. Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School Exam Format

Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School Horncastle uses the GL 11 Plus exams for their entry test. They are a member of the Lincolnshire Consortium of Grammar Schools, and so much of what they do is replicated in these other schools. 

The Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School Entry Exam: Overview

The entry exam consists of two components of the GL exams, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. These will be taken as two septeral tests on different days. Each test is multiple choice.

Entry Exam: Pass Criteria

Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School Horncastle uses the pass mark of a standardised score of 220 that is used by nearly all of the schools in the Lincolnshire Consortium of Grammar Schools. The applicants are ranked in order of merit and the highest have greater priority. 

 

Catchment area 

Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School Horncastle does use a catchment area. The pass mark is a standardised score of 220. Applicants who successfully score greater than the pass mark will be considered for entry. The first consideration is catchment area, if the applicant is from the catchment area then they will be admitted before others, if there are too many applicants from the catchment area then they will be awarded places based on merit in the entry test. If there are more places then students from outside of the catchment area will be ordered by merit and the remaining places will be awarded to the top scorers.

The entry exam is a GL 11 Plus exam. It will be composed of two tests, one on Verbal Reasoning, and the other on Non-Verbal Reasoning. The tests will be multiple choice.
