Introduction

Skegness Grammar School is a selective co-educational grammar school that was founded in 1459. At Skegness they aspire to provide all of their students with a supporting environment where they can thrive academically and socially. The staff are always encouraging the students to achieve past their expectations and to their full potential. The school says that the sports facilities are one of the great draws of the school, with tennis courts, cricket nets, climbing walls and more. Skegness Grammar School uses a house system to allow for greater interaction between year groups, as well as building a friendly competitive spirit and camaraderie in all of its students. The school has seen a great level of improvement in recent years according to Ofsted, they assessed the school as “Requires Improvement” in 2017, but as of 2021 they now classify the school as “Good” in all major categories. They noted that “pupils enjoy coming to school”, that the students are polite, and that they feel happy at school. The curriculum is ambitious for all students and curriculum plans are well structured. Ofsted reported that most aspects of teaching were good, aside from science which is inconsistent.

In 2019 Skegness Grammar School achieved a Progress 8 score of -0.04 which is an average score. 77% of students achieved a 5+ in Maths and English at GCSE. The Attainment 8 score for Skegness in 2019 was 9 points above average. These results are good compared to most of the country but there are certainly better results found within the Lincolnshire Consortium of Grammar Schools.
