Ofstead last rated the school Outstanding in all categories commenting of the school that ‘Teaching is outstanding overall. High-quality teaching and guidance ensure that students at all levels make rapid progress towards their challenging, individual targets.’ Beyond their academic studies children have the opportunity to explore and develop their interest, becoming rounded young adults thanks to the school’s ample extra-curricular programmes. Activities are available for a range of interests including sports, music, drama and public speaking alongside involvement in the Duke of Edinburgh Award and Combined Cadet Force. Pastoral care is provided not only by dedicated staff but also encouraged within the student body, building a sense of community within the school. Older students, especially those in the sixth form, are given the opportunity to help out with the junior classes and a buddying system has been instituted within years 7 and 8 to help newer students acclimatise.

Sir Roger Manwood’s School Exam Format

Alongside other Kentish grammar Schools, Sir Roger Manwood’s School uses the Kent Test provided by the GL 11 Plus exam board to assess suitability for admission. Below however is an overview of the format to introduce the various components of the Test.

The GL 11 Plus Kent Test: Overview

Three components make up the Kent Test. Two multiple choice papers with two sections each with questions on KS2 Maths and English and other question assessing verbal reasoning and Non-verbal Reasoning. The third element is a creative writing exercise set not by the GL 11 Plus exam boards, but by the school.

A multiple choice English and Maths paper written by GL 11 Plus and lasting 1 hour.

Paper Two

Paper Two: A multiple choice Verbal Reasoning and Non-verbal reasoning paper written by GL 11 Plus and lasting 1 hour.
