Introduction

Newport Girls’ High School is a free, selective academy in Newport, Shropshire, it is a relatively small school. According to the head teacher the school has a “real family-feel”. At Newport they prioritise the wellbeing and happiness of their students, this is shown in the students’ attitude towards school, but also in the awards won by the school. Newport Girls’ High School Exam Format

Applicants to Newport Girl’s High School have to take an entry exam. The entry exam is CEM 11 Plus. This exam is common to all the schools in the Consortium of Grammar Schools in Shropshire, Walsall and Wolverhampton. This exam consists of two papers, these papers test Mathematics, Verbal Reasoning, and Non-Verbal Reasoning. There is no set pass mark for places, instead they are given based on merit. Newport Girl’s High School has a catchment area surrounding Newport.

  • Looked after Children achieving above the minimum qualifying score be given a place above all others. 
  • Pupil Premium: 15 of the places will be given to Pupil Premium students. This will be done in order of merit, once all 15 places are filled the remaining students slot back into the order of merit.
