Introduction
Torquay Girls’ Grammar School is a single sex, selective school serving Torbay and the surrounding area. The school strives to develop students with high self-esteem, attaining the best possible academic grades together with a character which will allow them to secure the future that they desire.
The students at Torquay Girls’ Grammar School consistently perform well at GCSE level. Following the 2019 GCSE examinations, 98% of the girls at Torquay achieved at least a grade 5 in English and Maths (this is equivalent to at least a high grade C under the previous GCSE grading criteria). The school has a well above average “Progress 8” score, meaning students at Torquay Girls’ Grammar School develop at a much faster rate compared to the local and national average. The school also has an adjoining Sixth Form, whose students often go on to attend prestigious universities including Oxbridge and Russell Group universities.
For the reasons outlined above, Torquay Girls’ Grammar School is competitive for entry. The girls’ school selects students based on their performance in the Torbay Council 11+ test. This is an examination provided and marked by the GL Assessment exam board. It assesses a student’s capability in Maths and English. The 11+ is designed to push candidates beyond their Key Stage 2 education. Our resources with 11 Plus Hero help prepare your child for this GL 11+ test, providing them with a toolkit to have the best chance to succeed. We also provide information to help guide yourself and your child through the admissions process, so that you and your child can confidently and competently apply to Torquay Girls’ Grammar School.

Torquay Girls' Grammar School Exam Format
The Grammar schools in Torbay operate a combined Entrance Examination, meaning that the results from taking the test at one location can be used to gain entry to another grammar school in the area. In addition to Torquay Girls’ Grammar School these are Churston Ferrers Grammar, Torquay Boys’ Grammar School and the bi-lateral Spires College.
Taking 11+ Entrance Examinations can be a daunting experience for children and sitting tests in an unfamiliar environment, with questions in an unfamiliar format can prevent promising students from showcasing their potential. That is why 11 Plus Hero was created. To help you and your child become familiar and comfortable with the style of questioning they will face, so that there are no nasty surprises come test day itself.
